The Dog Ate My Computer (and other great excuses)

Of all the great excuses used over time for not handing in homework, the dog ate my computer might be up there with the best of all times. As a woman predisposed to photographing her neighbors’ garbage, this one impressed me more than most. I can’t quite figure out what went on in this house. I am equally curious and hesitant to find out the real story behind this one.

All I know is that it wasn’t Mel’s fault, she was just investigating. She actually turned around and looked at me with the ‘what the hell’ face. I had to get her in the shot because it reminded me of this great video that Emily posted last week. I am sure many of you have some 4-legged guilty parties living in your very homes that can relate.

License Plate of the Week

Ok, look at it for a minute and figure it out.

Got it? Really? What, are you sleep deprived? Look at it again.

That’s right Energy for Less.

So, what does this mean? Coffee drinker? Guy named Les buying cheap energy drinks? Speed dealer with good prices? Let’s put this baby out for a little poll. I am adding in an option to add your own ideas and  I will share them later on. Or feel free to put them in the comments.

Bathers with Diarrhea?!

This is an actual sign. It does not come from one of those sign generator websites that say things like ‘Merry Christmas from an Atheist’. Adding to the outright hysterical nature of this, it was sent to me via text from my most self-described germaphobic friend.

Her original question was, “Would you go swimming in this pool? We are at a resort in Alabama.” Wanting to give full respect to the residents of that fine state I would just like to ask y’all… “WHAT THE HELL?” The next question from my horrified friend was, “What do you think the ‘etc’ is. My answer was, “Leprocy”

Um… duh!

Ok, so let’s review this one. How do we actually verify whether the bather in question has diarrhea? Do we follow every living soul into the bathroom and wait? Now those with skin diseases and lesions, although they would be quite easy to pick out in a crowd I am thinking A) sitting in the sun by the pool might not be on the top of the list of their activities and B) the chlorine would probably hurt like hell so they would most likely not be inclined to go for a dip.

Now the ‘etc.’ crowd? They are going to be REALLY hard to police.

I suppose they needed to cover all the bases. You know, because most upscale resorts have all sorts of problems with this sort of thing.

” Oh Alabama. The devil fools with the best laid plan”.

Prevent ‘Clogs’

It would appear that one of the perks of being friends with The Magnet For The Absurd (MFTA) is that eventually absurdities start to present themselves to you. This wonderful image comes from  Susan, who has sent me countless absurdities by phone, for my sheer entertainment and wonder. Sue, I believe you have left apprentice stage and have earned the title of Partner of Absurdity (POA).

Perhaps you need a logo…

Pet Toilets

This one comes from my dear friend Dani. She posted it on facebook and I knew she had me in mind. This is at South of the Border (where else?). I wonder if it is just an open field or if they have set up something cute with dividers. You know, to give the furry little creatures some privacy.

I have always been amused by the JFK Airport Pet Relief Area sign. I googled it and found this picture. You have to love the fire hydrant in the middle. To make them feel less self conscious and more at home, I suppose.

FYI, Philadelphia has 7 pet relief areas at their airport. So I am guessing that when you fly through there you best be carrying a second pair of shoes, just in case.

I know what you are thinking. Only I could write a whole post about pet toileting. Yeh well, it amuses me, what can I say?

The Dalai Lama is on facebook?!

Yeh, he really is. And thanks to my friend Gail who liked his page I know that because it came up in my recommend section. I clicked on the page and found out that 8 more of my friends liked it too (you know who you are).

So how do we feel about his? I mean, why not, right? 600 million people can’t be wrong and 1,387,251 of them have actively liked his page.

Imagine how many like him off facebook.

I love that his location is listed as Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I don’t know, I just never thought of him as having an office.

The whole thing seemed sort of odd to me at first but then when I thought about it, isn’t social media fully aligned with his teachings. And hey, where else can you connect with so many with such little effort.

And I thought being followed by Jesus and Moses on twitter was a big deal!

Orthodox Chews

This hysterical item was sent to me by my BBFF, Liz. I do so love a good play on words. And the font is perfect. This rivals the yarmulkap, or as I affectionately called it the yid lid.

Not sure when salt water taffy became ‘A Chewish Tradition’ but I have to give this company credit for coming up with the whole concept. This, I am sure, will be a hit at every Passover seder this year.

Of course I had to check out their website and they had me at the opening line:

For over 5000 years, your family and friends have been waiting for you to treat them to something special. With one simple act, all is forgiven. Delicious Orthodox Chews Gourmet Salt Water Taffy are the answer of the ages. A gift of Orthodox Chews or Orthodox Chews SugarFree is a gift of love.

The call to action is simply priceless:

Order now! Don’t let another 1000 years slip by!

The tagline?

Orthodox Chews. The Chosen Chews.

Ultimate Kid Travel Meal

I admit it, I was incredibly indulgent with my kids when it came to food. If I had to do it again I would probably not have done that. (sorry kids)

It would appear this family took it to the next level. I snapped this pic on a flight (from hell) home from Florida.

Macaroni sandwich anyone?

Have to admit, this one was pretty creative.

Bizarre Neighborhood?

It is beginning to occur to me that perhaps we do not live in the most normal of neighborhoods. I mean, it looks normal. We have neat houses with classic slate roofs and pretty landscaping. Everyone takes pride in their homes and for the most part keeps everything in good repair.

But when I start to think about the condom wrapping of snowmen, the bizarre garbage and the curb side art galleries, it would appear that we are a bit of an eclectic group. Those are all sort of charming, but THIS? The picture at the top of this post was taken at a house with the most bizarre residents. These ‘decorations’ were put up for Christmas but hung around for quite a while. The whole yard was filled with these wacky angels.

Honestly, I am sort of afraid to go past this place at night.

So? Do all neighborhoods have this sort of stuff or is it just us?
