I could cry but I don’t have time…
The first time I said that I had no idea what would come out of it. I blurted it out to a friend in a moment of being ridiculously overwhelmed, much of which I am quite sure was self-imposed.
I said it and then we both could not stop laughing. One of those deep belly laughs that come from the combination of exhaustion and the realization of how absurd we had let our lives become.
It became a buzz phrase, a catch-all answer to why I can’t talk right now because the rice burned, the dog threw up, then got loose, I have nothing to wear for the black tie on Saturday, my kid has been coughing all winter (or maybe since she was born), not one, but two parents just had surgery – out of state– and a pipe just burst… all while I was on a conference call. That’s where this blog started.
Don’t worry, the kids grew up and the (next) dog is aging but hanging in there. And honestly, now I have plenty of time but I still love the phrase. I’m in a completely different space. Work has taken a back seat to life, the hard parts of life like aging parents, illness, loss and life stage shifts. This is where you REALLY need to keep your humor! It is crucial to:
Laugh. Sometimes to the point of tears.
Here is my shot at making you laugh and cry…make the time.
