About

I could cry but I don’t have time…

The first time I said that I had no idea what would come out of it. I blurted it out to a friend in a moment of being ridiculously overwhelmed, much of which I am quite sure was self-imposed.

I said it and then we both could not stop laughing. One of those deep belly laughs that come from the combination of exhaustion and the realization of how absurd we had let our lives become.

It became a buzz phrase, a catch-all answer to why I can’t talk right now because the rice burned, the dog threw up, then got loose, I have nothing to wear for the black tie on Saturday, my kid has been coughing all winter (or maybe since she was born), not one, but two parents just had surgery – out of state– and a pipe just burst… all while I was on a conference call. That’s where this blog started.

Don’t worry, the kids grew up and the dog is fine. And honestly, now I have plenty of time but I still love the phrase.

This is kind of Amy meets Lucy and Ethel with a cyber twist. It is actually the step back from it all to do the one thing we do best:

Laugh. Sometimes to the point of tears.

My goal is to make this a pavlovian phrase that jerks us back and stops the nonsense. Let’s face it, none of us are half as indispensable as we make ourselves out to be. It all gets done. Some things better than others, but at the end of the day if we can’t laugh, or more importantly cry, sometimes we are missing the whole point.

So, here is my shot at making you laugh and cry…make the time.
