Iko Iko All Day

Another chapter in the life of  ‘follow that car!’

We were behind Mr. Iko Iko from Connecticut on the way out of the Midtown Tunnel on the Manhattan side. Luckily we stopped at a red light as we made a left towards the FDR.

Both Gary and I felt that this was the license plate we were most jealous of so far. To the point where we considered seeing if it is available in New York.

Of course everyone knows it would be way cooler if it were from Louisiana. But what is the shot it is available there?

Oh, to always have a charged camera. I would have been really cranky if I missed this one.

Talkin’ ’bout, hey now, hey now…

Discount Sushi?

After a good Time to Cry Tuesday it is always fun to follow it up with a Time to Puke Wednesday.

Buy One Get One Free Sushi?

Um, ew.

I get it. At 5:59 it is still fresh. At 6:00, not so much. And then there is that legal disclaimer up in the right corner of the shot:

Consuming raw or undercooked seafood can increase the risk of food borne illness, especially in the young, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems.

Yikes, check your guest list before you serve the sushi, kids. Certainly the (almost) day old kind.

Do you want fries with that?

Like This!

I posted this because I simply love this logo and wish I had designed it. Yes, after all these years I still have graphic design envy. Pathetic, I know.

It got me to thinking about one of the HS teachers who told the kids they should study. And if they didn’t they could all repeat after him, “Do you want fries with that?” Sort of obnoxious but I think they got his point.

So, here we are, the final week before my boy graduates that very HS. And yes, you will be subjected to a killer amount of sentimentality this week. So for those of you (Dr. Jimmy, cough, cough) who are not predisposed to enjoying the reflective parenting posts, you may want to just watch The Man Show or something (is that still on?)

Even if he doesn’t study for that last Regents Exam this Tuesday I am pretty sure he will not be destined for a career in a burger joint (or a brgr joint for that matter). So, kiddies, let the games begin. I am officially on the road to letting this one go! (thank goodness his sister is home for the summer).

The ‘girls’ in their summer clothes…

Like This!

Do you think this is what Springsteen had in mind when he wrote this song?

I am not gonna lie, I chased this guy down from 7th Avenue and 23rd Street to Broadway and 21st before I got this perfect shot. Yes, I am worried about the fact that I have become a bit of a stalker. But so far I have not gotten caught.

I always wonder what possesses people to put clothing on dogs. I sort of get the little coats and sweaters, maybe even the little orange socks to keep their feet clean if you are predisposed to OCD.

But a blue gingham sundress?!

MFTA material for sure!

Family Mall Day

Like This!

Once a year we have family mall day. Every June, between the end of school and the beginning of camp the four of us spend an eternity a few hours at the local mall. We are not particularly good shoppers, but there is something about an activity that we all do together with some short term goal attached that makes it a nice tradition.

Of course I spent 4 hours and countless dollars and I still have nothing to wear, but that is the way it goes.

A few observations:

1. People are 60% uglier in the mall. I am not sure if we too, become 60% uglier or just the odd looking like to congregate in these places. This also holds true for all theme and water parks.

2. For the most part, the clothing is ugly. I am not sure if that is true either but I know a lot of it is. And the price point does not matter. Sometimes the more expensive stuff is uglier than the cheaper stuff.

3. Mall food is… well, it is mall food. Enough said there.

4. Every store is playing the most annoying song in the universe the second we walk through the doors. (and remember we are a music family, we have very diverse tastes). Oh and there is usually an underlying layer of white noise involved.

5. The yogurt is DEFINITELY NOT low fat.

And now, because of course I had a camera, I will leave you with the highlights of the day. I am only sorry that even though I stalked a woman through the racks at Sterns I was unable to snap a picture of her carrying her little white dog in a baby carrier on the front of her body. Even I was a embarrassed at my behavior. Oh and the baby with the leash on its wrist… a memory of blog posts past.

So, I will start off with a little trend spotting. Seriously, everyone is going Techno Tribal! Um, do with that what you may. I am sort of at a loss on this one.

This poor chick not only lost her hand, she lost her pants. And by the looks of her Brazilian I am guessing she is probably not Techno Tribal; I believe the tribal piece requires hair. I am pretty sure I know where her date is, we ran into him a while back.

Yes, I considered buying a dozen of these T-shirts. But I am not gonna lie, the graphic was just way too disturbing.

And last but not least, sure the ladies like it! But sadly the Mustache has just sort of faded a bit out there. It’s generational, but no worries ‘ladies’, styles are cyclical.and those who still wear them do so proudly.

That’s all I got. Now if you are interested in Family Mall Day next year, we are considering selling tickets. And sponsorships, this day is not cheap!

The Dancer

In celebration of Bonnaroo,  and with sadness that we did not join Dr. Jimmy and Co. for this year’s treck, I bring you The Dancer (or the Fire Dancer as she is sometimes called).

This chick is surely a hardcore DMB fan. Jana spotted her in the alley outside her apartment in Madison as we were leaving the garbage room. You might remember my embarrassing episode there last summer. She silently pointed, we froze and I whipped out the camera to take this shot without her ever knowing. We can be very sneaky that way.

So, Dr. Jimmy, here’s to you and da boyz. Hope you have a great time this weekend and your feet don’t get too muddy.

Go ahead: Like This!

Britney Barbie – hold the undies

Cheap shot, I know. Who could resist what with her latest headlines about sexually harrassing her bodyguard by walking around her house naked in front of him. Yeh, I would imagine most guys would hate that. WTF?

Could it be true that her dad charged her staff to make sure she never left the house without underwear on? A 29-year-old woman whose dad is doing a regular skivvie check, what is that all about?

I am thinking she could offset the legal bills if she licensed herself for the limited edition britney barbie sans foundation garments.

Funniest Picture Ever!

I don’t know why but every time I look at this picture I laugh to the point of tears. There was a bike tour in Madison this weekend and a bunch of people were riding these old bikes. One guy was walking his and Jana and I stopped to see how he was going to get back on. I kept snapping shots hoping to catch him at the moment that he mounted the bike.

Instead I caught him in the act of choking himself to death while putting his helmet on:

I dare you not to laugh when you look at this. He looks a little bit like Franklin the turtle, no?

Tongue Cleaner

Forgot my camera today but luckily I had my phone. Not the best picture but you can still see this baby tucked in between the Canker Cover and the Humming Bird (I am not going to even ask what THAT is used for). This display was the trifecta of absurdities. Just my kind of merchandising.

I can’t imagine using this item but who could resist the tagline: your breath’s friend! With a TM no less.

Dr. Jimmy? Commentary?

Back Waxing

While taking this picture on Main Street in my town a couple walked by and he said, “Hey, maybe I should go get my back waxed.”

I must say that $40 seems awfully cheap for a whole back, doesn’t it?

Is there really anything else for me to say about this that I have not already said? Please refer back to this post and this post to hear my opinion of hairy backs.

That should do it. Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.
