K9JSTICE

Ah… nothing like a little K9JSTICE. I always think that the dogs should have a fair shot at everything. And if they have been wronged, then by all means they should have their due process.

A little research and I came up with the K9 Justice League. They focus on dog rescue and adoption. Love that!

I saw this license plate on my way home from the city (that is what we NYers call Manhattan… ‘the’ city, you know because we are egocentric and we act like it is the only city). Just before I saw this one I saw YOGALVR and CROWNO2. Is that second one Crow No. 2 , like the second crow or is that Crown O2, like a crown of oxygen?

Could it be possible that I should pay more attention to the road and less to all this nonsense?

Cheaper than dry cleaning

This was sent to me from my very witty friend the strategist. Yeh, that is a job, and he is REALLY good at it.

He can also spot a fabulous piece of signage on the street. You have to love the person who used this line to sell this ties. Of course my husband has always told me that under no circumstances can you dry clean a tie and expect it to be ok when you get it back… once it gets dirty it is gone. Could that be true?

Nonetheless, I bet that sign helps him sell a hell of a lot of ties.

Time to Cry Tuesday – Summer

Summer.

There are certain moments in this season that take your breath away. The sheer simplicity of a vision like this in the early morning is one such moment. I walk in the early hours of the day, when the light is so beautiful it is sometimes hard to believe it is real. I used to walk with headphones but now I try to soak it all in; to enjoy the sound of the birds and the breeze.

The other day I brought my camera to help me focus in on the details. These berries embody the way the morning felt – one so ripe and slightly damaged, the other still maturing on the vine. All that lush greenery around them was the perfect backdrop.

Sometimes there are great rewards in living in the macro for a minute or two.

Gives perspective to the rest of the day.

Very out of the basement, indeed.

Potato Chip Hat

Stalker that I am, I took this shot from afar in a parking lot. I could not believe this fabulous hat! This woman was all decked out for what looked like a rockin’ family celebration at the Olive Garden.

That hat is so fine I can only hope she gets to wear it again.

One day someone is going to catch me doing this.

Not today ; )

Doggie Dress

Let me say that again… doggie DRESS!!!

Seriously?

Here is an open note to people who dress their dogs in clothing.

Don’t.

Additionally, Kids on leashes, dogs in strollers = not ok.

Thank you.

I was already in love with you by then…

This could be my favorite graffiti ever! The guy behind me on Prince Street was none to happy about me stopping a little too long as the light turned so I could get this shot, but it was worth it.

I kept trying to think of what the next line should be:

I was already in love with you by then…

… so it was not necessary for you to try to impress me.

… but it was fun to watch you still working it.

… so the fact that you made the effort was even more endearing.

Ok, a little too romance novel for you. How about these:

… so it was no wonder I did not care that you had just puked on my shoes.

… so  I overlooked the fact that you were wearing that shirt.

… but I am not all that sure I was into you leaving the bathroom door open just yet.

Ok, time to open this one up in the comments. Don’t be shy, you know you want to throw one in here.

Time to Cry Tuesday – Timing is Everything

Do you ever wonder what makes you decide to do something at the exact moment that you do? What makes you feel the need to complete a task that sets you on a specific path at a specific time? Sometimes there is a higher power at work. No, I am not getting all religious on you, more fatalistic. I am a firm believer that some things do not happen by accident. Sometimes we are part of a predestined plan.

Today was just such a day. Today we were supposed to go to the beach, but got caught up in doing stuff around the house. Today Gary had an almost obsessive need to drop a few bags of stuff that have been in the garage for weeks in the Goodwill box. Today he made the decision to leave at just the very moment that made all the difference in the world.

Minutes after he left – only a few short blocks from our house – he came upon a friend in dire need and set the ball in motion to help. If he was not there at that very moment the whole experience would have gone down completely differently. Our friend would have been alone. And more frightened than he already was. No one would have known what had happened. It was as if he was guided to that very spot at that very time to make a terrible situation a little easier to navigate.

Timing is everything.

And we are incredibly lucky to have the kind of friends that we do.

Very lucky indeed.

Overheard on the Fire Island Ferry

Yesterday we spent a glorious day on Fire Island. It was one of those picture perfect summer mornings when taking the ferry sets the tone for the wonderful day ahead. Years ago, we spent our summers there in share houses. Yesterday we were visiting friends who we met back then and now own a home just blocks away from where we stayed.

As we sat down on the top deck of the ferry I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. It struck me how that whole scene was flashback to those carefree days before kids, mortgages and a few decades of hard work had worn us down. These people were us back then and it was fun to revisit that time. One thing that has not changed are the silly conversations you overhear on that boat. Here are some of my favorites:

1. Me? I hate to shower alone when I am stoned. I INSIST that someone sits in the bathroom with me while I shower. (as an aside, she was adorable and I am thinking there was a line in her house for volunteers)

2. So, she was there last night and I have to say she is such a bitch. Then I get home and she had friended me. And I am like all, well I can’t ignore the friend request so I just gave her limited access.

Very.

Limited.

Access.

3. Did you see her wall this morning. I could not believe her x-boyfriend’s sister left this whole long thing congratulating her on her engagement. Even SHE knew her brother was an asshole.

Gary still marvels at my ability to keep a conversation with him going and still be able to hear these other things being said around me. I think that women have an innate ability to do that. It is sort of like auditory multi-tasking.

The boat home was a whole other story. We took the 11:00 which is the slightly toasted but not totally s–t faced boat (that’s the 1AM boat). We took a shuttle to the parking lot with a guy banging on a bongo and a sort of tipsy guy who commented a bit too loud and lot too blatantly about the size of the breasts of a girl leaving the shuttle. This prompted his date to start a round of a song she called “Your So Obnoxious” with half the shuttle joining in on the chorus.

Yep, a good time was had by all.
