Only.

File this under ALWAYS carry a camera. This sticker was on pillar of a building on Houston Street. I took a shot with my phone and posted it to facebook, but right after that I got a shot with my camera with these people walking by that made it even more interesting.

After a little Googling I found out that Only. is ‘an independent brand based out of the West side of Manhattan that offers quality goods, released in limited quantity.’ You can find out more about them here.

Cool brand, cool stuff but I am still more excited about the intrigue they created with this sticker. So I will pose the question here that I asked on facebook:

Only what?

So far facebook responses were:

1. . (I believe that was a typed period… very creative and very literal)

2. only you, baby. (sweet)

3. The lonely… (love this one… I am huge Roy Orbison fan)

So? What is your answer?

Time to Cry Tuesday – RIP Clarence Clemons

There are certain bands that feel like the soundtrack of your life. Everyone has them; the bands they grew up on. When you hear their songs it brings you back to those lazy days of your adolescence – hours on end spent listening to music in your friends’ rooms. Every note, every lyric burned into your brain for eternity, evoking those memories that you built your friendships on. For me these bands are woven into the fabric of who I am, what makes me feel like me.

For some reason, every time I hear early Springsteen, I am transported back to my friend Ali’s room. She must have been the first one to turn us all on to Bruce. All these years later I still never tire of those songs. They feel like home. Like friendship. Like my High School girls who were, and always will be, there for me no matter what. Fast forward to college, the sound of Springsteen will forever sound like a night at Neal’s house. Air guitar abounding, there was not a note we did not know.

And in the center of all those songs was The Big Man’s big sound – that sax that could cut right through you. When Clarence blew, we all sat back and felt it to our core. His sound was so distinct it felt like a vocal.

A loss shook through the land of rock ‘n roll this weekend when Clarence Clemons died. So here’s to Clarence, “the Minister of Soul, the Secretary of the Brotherhood, probably the next King of England” the biggest Big Man of them all! Of all his famous solos, Jungleland stands out as the ultimate example of his soulful power.

Sit back, close your eyes, and mourn the passing of one of the most beloved men in rock ‘n roll. RIP Clarence. Heaven is going to be rockin’ this week for sure!

Poison Ivy Picnic

Hey kids, this looks like a good spot to picnic! Um, Grandma, what does that sign say?

I stumbled upon this scene at the Clearwater Festival this weekend. There was a festival-style food court with picnic tables all over the place. Whatever possessed the adults in this crowd to park here is beyond me. I am thinking it might have been the heat. Mom seems to be sucking down that iced tea like she really means it.

I love how they wrapped the tree in plastic to help avoid the spread of poison ivy. My question is what about the poor schnook that did the wrapping?

Hey kids, next week let’s go to the beach with shark infested waters.

What if?

Every once in awhile a bumper sticker comes along and makes you really think. Or really laugh. Or both. I texted this picture to my brother and his answer was, “Then I would have to turn myself around. It may be too late for that.” My response was that it is never too late.

So, my friends, I believe we could all do with a little philosophy of the hokey pokey. Think about it for a moment or two. If you think it is time to turn yourself around, go ahead.

You just never know.

That post title should get me some interesting traffic, don’t you think?

This photo was sent to me by my friend Wendy. This was a great week for blog fodder bird dogs. Thanks everyone for making this such an easy week to post.

If you look closely, this is a sticker for Lower Slower Delaware. A little Googling and I found out this is what they call Sussex County, Delaware. Great sense of humor, wouldn’t you say? I like this blog with the subtitle ‘It’s not a drug, it’s a way of life’.

Time to Cry Tuesday – Laundry and Toilet Paper

I am so very fortunate to say that my family is whole for a few weeks. I have said this before but I never get tired of the feeling of laying my head down on the pillow knowing that both my kids – albeit no longer children – are sleeping in their own beds.

The window is short, but NEVER under appreciated. There is always too much laundry and not enough toilet paper and I love every moment of it.

We fall back into the usual banter:

Q. What’s for dinner?

A. I’m not up to that yet?

Q. Do we have rolls?

A. Nope, and while you are out picking them up can you get me a Starbuck’s iced latte (don’t forget the chocolate and cinnamon)

Q. Do you want to sleep in my bed tonight?

A. No Mother.

Q. Be careful (upon leaving)

A. Yes Mother.

This mom thing, it’s like riding a bike!

All joking aside, in light of the very tragic disappearance of Lauren Spierer and her incredibly brave and dedicated parents, I do not spend one moment taking for granted how very fragile our lives are. Please join the effort anyway you can. Help these these parents find their beautiful daughter.

Social Media Explained

This one was sent to me by my friend Susan, who is certainly a magnet of the absurd and a great observer of her environment. She saw this in a bathroom on 5th Avenue and 23rd street. If you are familiar with social media, you will find this as hysterical as I did. If you are not, this is a pretty description of what each of these things are about.

I simply love that someone took the time to do this and hang it where it would be read.

Stuck Forever?

Today on my walk, instead of garbage, I came across this sign on a freshly paved driveway. You really have to love my neighbors. Instead of being mean or stern they opted for the humorous tone to make sure no one walked on their driveway.

I don’t know about you but I would certainly not risk being stuck there FOREVER! A couple of hours maybe, but forever?! I thought it would be funny to get Mel in the background on the driveway but again, forever just did not seem doable.

You know your kids are older when…

My kids are home! For the first weekend in 6 months we have a full house. There is a lot of laundry, boxes everywhere, the dishwasher is always full and the fridge gets empty rather quickly.

It is a little disorienting but I love it.

Now that they are adults(ish) the dinner conversation has changed quite a bit. It really goes over the top when we have a full house with our dear family friends. The conversation is always lively and never fit for a family restaurant.

That has never stopped us.

Just a sampling of topics:

1. Fake boobs. Best comment on this topic: ‘Did you get caught looking at the mom’s fake boobs? Oh she is  the stepmom, that’s a different story’

2. Fake boobs and sisters. Consensus is this is not ok.

3. Nose jobs. How it is uncool to have one and then act like you didn’t.

4. Penis enlargements. Under no circumstances should moms every bring these up in front of their sons. Or call them an adictomy. Both happened (for the record it wasn’t me).

Believe it or not, that was just the tip of the iceberg. I am sure the rest of the patrons were quite happy when we left.
