Do you want fries with that?

I posted this because I simply love this logo and wish I had designed it. Yes, after all these years I still have graphic design envy. Pathetic, I know.

It got me to thinking about one of the HS teachers who told the kids they should study. And if they didn’t they could all repeat after him, “Do you want fries with that?” Sort of obnoxious but I think they got his point.

So, here we are, the final week before my boy graduates that very HS. And yes, you will be subjected to a killer amount of sentimentality this week. So for those of you (Dr. Jimmy, cough, cough) who are not predisposed to enjoying the reflective parenting posts, you may want to just watch The Man Show or something (is that still on?)

Even if he doesn’t study for that last Regents Exam this Tuesday I am pretty sure he will not be destined for a career in a burger joint (or a brgr joint for that matter). So, kiddies, let the games begin. I am officially on the road to letting this one go! (thank goodness his sister is home for the summer).

Back Waxing

While taking this picture on Main Street in my town a couple walked by and he said, “Hey, maybe I should go get my back waxed.”

I must say that $40 seems awfully cheap for a whole back, doesn’t it?

Is there really anything else for me to say about this that I have not already said? Please refer back to this post and this post to hear my opinion of hairy backs.

New York vs. The World

I took this picture the other night when out with the girls. I kept stopping to take pictures and they kept going. I actually lost sight of them right before this and had to call to find them.

Yeh, I am a ton of fun to go out with.

This window was on a storefront somewhere east of Lafayette and south of Houston (can’t remember what block). I don’t think this was the name of the store, but rather a statement in the window. Anyone living down there, please let me know what this was because when I googled I came up empty.

Anyway, the sentiment struck me.

New York vs. The World.

How much more New Yorker can that be. We do have that center of the universe attitude that I would imagine is annoying to those who don’t live in the center of the universe. I would also imagine that a t-shirt with this emblazoned across the chest probably would not be the best wardrobe item anywhere but here.

Nonetheless, I love it. As I love NY.

Cliche? tough.

Subway Etiquette Posters

Now this is something I wish I had thought of. Kind of like your mother telling you how to behave before you ride the subway. Thanks to The Daily What and a tweet from my idol, @guykawasaki, I found these and just had to share. For all of us who have ridden the NYC subway system for years, this is a breath of fresh air.

From the Daily What:

Jason Shelowitz is presently in the process of posting 400 “Service Changes”-themed Subway Etiquette posters on behalf of the “Metropolitan Etiquette Authority” on trains throughout the city. He encourages subway patrons to keep an eye out for them and take them “before the MTA does.”

Too lazy to click the links? Basic story is that this guy surveyed 100 people about their pet peeves in the subway and created these posters to try to build some awareness and get people to behave better.

Kinda wishing that the guy on the F train in 1982 when I commuted from Forest Hills had read the physical contact one. I am still skeeved out by him. And the religious ranters? Seriously, must I listen to that AND be stuck next to the smelly guy and the not so noise cancelling ipod boy at the same time?

Looking forward to hearing more about these. If any of you spot one please snap a shot and send me the location. Would like to track how this works.

A Big Florida Welcome

Yes, I am back in the Sunshine State, and I use that term loosely this season.

This is a billboard as you get out of the airport towards I95. Nothing like making the tourists feel at home as soon as they arrive.

The Bulgarian Bar

The Bulgarian Bar is NOT upstairs.

I, for one, was quite relieved by this signage.

Apparently they have a problem with thirsty Bulgarians.

What was upstairs was a fabulous, tragically hip (which we are not) asian fusion tapas (any other groovy name you can think of to describe it) restaurant called Kuma Inn. (113 Ludlow Str, NYC)

Great food, great service, reasonable prices and lovely bathroom with lots of candles.

And SO not a Bulgarian Bar.

Florida Real Estate

Florida: Day 3

A constant source of entertainment here in South Florida are the names of the planned communities. Like the famous Del Boca Vista of Seinfeld, the naming conventions are quite comical.

Driving home from dinner with my aunt and uncle we passed a favorite: Villagio. Not to be confused with Bellagio. It seems they start to run out of names so they create hybrids. Which is a bit scary since everyone is sort of hard of hearing and could easily wind up in the wrong place.

Here you can also find Valencia Isles, Valencia Lakes, Valencia Pointe and Valencia Shores. My uncle told us that the fire department got fed up and asked them to change things up because it was becoming too confusing.

So they built Greystone.

It would appear that if you live in one of the Valencias chances are your house could burn down before they find you. Something to consider when looking at Greystone.

But our favorite community of all would have to be…

Journey’s End.

Seriously, why not just name the place G-d’s Waiting Room.

What a Difference a G Makes

Yep, thinking of going out tonight with the family to try the new Micky D’s Anus Deluxe. You know, because the Anus Minis are just not filling enough. I will refrain from all the other follow-up comments that have run through my twisted little brain as I am listed as a mom blogger in some online communities and really, this is so inappropriate.

Ok, so maybe everyone loves a girl fight, doodyman, and metal dildos are probably not all that maternal either.

The Burp Castle

File this one under, Only in NY!

I passed this today on a little family excursion through the East Village. Burp Castle, Temple of Beer Worship is located on East 7th Street between 2nd and Copper Square in case you want to visit. Not far from McSorley’s Old Ale House, this would make a nice beer tour if you are from out of town.

Not too sure about the Brewist Monks since 1022 a.d. but hey, it looks like a fun place.

I found the juxtaposition of these quite funny. Even funnier, the fact that Sex Drive had to be repeated. Was it for reasons of hearing, eyesight or poor memory?
