Kettle Ho

This one comes to us from Uncle Neal. Today was a big day for submissions. Sue sent another great one which I will use tomorrow. I love when I am sent blog fodder and I don’t have to come up with anything clever on my own.

This particular sign is just too good to be true – Kettle Ho. There is of course the kettle and the hoe… but then why drop the ‘e’ on hoe. And the mermaid? I hate to be crass but are mermaids anatomically correct to be able to fulfill the ho requirement?

Now it gets better. This place, in Cotuit, MA (how do you pronounce that?), is also the home of Mycock Real Estate.

So Neal, what did they serve there?

Danger…

Another great shot from my friend Sue. The same one who brought you Social Media Explained from a bathroom stall. I am convinced she hangs in the most interesting buildings in NY. Hey Sue, were these in the same building?

So, let’s think about this sign. What are the dangers of rapping in the elevator?

1. Perhaps you would make someone angry enough to cause a fight.

2. You could become so engrossed in the act of rapping that you would press all the wrong buttons causing the elevator to malfunction. (unlikely)

3. Or maybe the building hipsters just thought this was funny.

Now even a mundane elevator ride or a visit to the bathroom can be amusing. Nothing bad about that.

Creative Bathroom Signage

We came home the other night from a weekend away to find this sign on the bathroom. It was obvious that Jana had some friends over while we were away.

What I love about my kids’ friends is not only do they totally get my sense of humor, they spontaneously leave me notes in the oddest places. Thank you, Kate, for reminding us what we need to do and where to do it.

In the past I have also found notes in the cupcakes and a signed banana in the fruit bowl.

I’m still breathing

For those who were concerned that I dropped off the face of the earth for a few days… I’m still breathing.

I was off the grid for the weekend, soaking in the loveliness of Montauk and did not feel compelled to post. Although I did take a million pictures that you will surely see here and on the newly resurrected Leaving the Zip Code.

(disclaimer: this was a sticker on the back of a road sign that made me laugh and by no means makes any reference to the Katie Perry song. Cuz, you know, I am more of a Patti Smith sort of girl than a Katie Perry one).

LSD

That post title should get me some interesting traffic, don’t you think?

This photo was sent to me by my friend Wendy. This was a great week for blog fodder bird dogs. Thanks everyone for making this such an easy week to post.

If you look closely, this is a sticker for Lower Slower Delaware. A little Googling and I found out this is what they call Sussex County, Delaware. Great sense of humor, wouldn’t you say? I like this blog with the subtitle ‘It’s not a drug, it’s a way of life’.

Social Media Explained

This one was sent to me by my friend Susan, who is certainly a magnet of the absurd and a great observer of her environment. She saw this in a bathroom on 5th Avenue and 23rd street. If you are familiar with social media, you will find this as hysterical as I did. If you are not, this is a pretty description of what each of these things are about.

I simply love that someone took the time to do this and hang it where it would be read.

Stuck Forever?

Today on my walk, instead of garbage, I came across this sign on a freshly paved driveway. You really have to love my neighbors. Instead of being mean or stern they opted for the humorous tone to make sure no one walked on their driveway.

I don’t know about you but I would certainly not risk being stuck there FOREVER! A couple of hours maybe, but forever?! I thought it would be funny to get Mel in the background on the driveway but again, forever just did not seem doable.

What do Jesus and Sushi Have in Common?

Tough question, right? I am sure you are squinting at the details of the back of this car trying to find the answer. Disclaimer, no religious disrespect intended, I am just a lover of parody.

I came across this little gem of a Subaru in the supermarket parking lot. At first glance I thought, wow, this is one religious dude. On second glance I saw that this guy was hysterical. A closer look at the left side and I saw this:

Classic Jesus fish, or Ichthys. Not  so classic Sushi fish.

Panning  to the other side of the car I found these little gems of religious parody:

The ever popular Vegan fish. The FSM fish (I will get back to that one) and the completely irreverent Theory of Evolution Darwin fish. In the center was simply an empty fish. I think that one was trying to stand out. Or perhaps it was the void of religion in contrast to the other parody of religion types. Nonetheless they all clung proudly to the back of the trusty Legacy.

I had to do a little Googling on FSM and here is what I found. This stands for Flying Spaghetti Monster. Here is what Wikipedia served up for me on this.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) is the deity of the parody religion[1][2] the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or Pastafarianism.[3] In 2005, Oregon State physics graduate Bobby Henderson wrote an open letter about a “Flying Spaghetti Monster” as a satirical protest against the decision by the Kansas State Board of Education to permit the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in public schools.[4] In the letter, Henderson parodied the concept of intelligent design by professing belief in a supernatural creator that closely resembles spaghetti and meatballs. Henderson further called for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism to be allotted equal time in science classrooms alongside intelligent design and evolution. You can read the rest here. (totally worth the click to see the artwork on that page)

In closing, all I can say is this whole thing only cements the idea that I MUST meet the person who drives this car.

You know you are in a college town when…

I found this to be a fairly impressive list for an establishment that served blue drinks out of fishbowls. One of the grandma’s (not our family) that joined us with the grads at the bar told us never to drink blue drinks because you will inevitably find yourself face down on the table.

Good rule. Sage wisdom.

I particularly like bullet number 3: No sagged pants or shorts (must cover your underwear/Above your ass)

Classy joint!

Set Yourself Free

Spotted on West 14th Street. Hey, for the price of an iPad you can rid yourself of that pesky spouse.

What is this world coming to?
